OPEN DAY – Workshop HOME & ABROAD (Xerem/Triangle Network)
in Sintra, Portugal, on 6th November 2010.


Coming next week in London (at Gasworks, on 22nd February 2011, at 7pm) and in Lisbon (at CARPE DIEM – Art and Research, on 26th February 2011, at 6pm), the launching of the book Home & Abroad, documenting the various activities organized in the first Triangle Network workshop held in Portugal in partnership with the cultural association Xerem.

The publication is bilingual (PT/EN) and provides a large varied visual documentation on the workshop development with 21 participating artists during the two-week residency at Monte dos Cipestres in Sintra, emphasizing the ateliers’ opening day – “Open Day” to the public in general.

The international artists in residence were:
Ana Maria Milán (Colombia), Alex da Silva (Cap Verde), Beatriz Albuquerque (Portugal), Bernard Akoi-Jackson (Ghana), Binu Bhaskar (India/ Australia/ United Arab Emirates), Carlos Mélo (Brazil), Cristina Ataíde (Portugal), Daniel Melim (Portugal), Gayle Chong Kwan (Scotland/ China/ Mauritius), Gemuce (Mozambique), Hindhyra (Angola), Isabel Lima (Portugal), Rachel Korman (Brazil/Portugal), Rémi Bragard (France), Salomé Lamas (Portugal), Sara e André (Portugal), Susana Guardado (Portugal), Teodolinda Semedo (Portugal), Tiago Borges (Angola/Portugal), Yara El –Sherbini (United Kingdom/Egypt).

In addition to the respective Xerem’ artistic coordinators and co-founders texts (Jorge and Monica de Miranda), the edition presents the Triangle Network director (Alessio Antoniolli) and the resident curator (Lúcia Marques) testimonies. It includes as well various contributions of other curators, programmers, cultural managers and artists invited to participate in this cross programming initiative, namely David-Alexandre Guéniot, Lourenço Egreja, Jorge Barreto Xavier, José António Fernandes Dias, Andrzej Raszyk, Fabrice Ziegler, Herwig Turk, João Dias, Graça Pereira Coutinho, Xana and Rigo. In London, on 22nd February 2011 (Tuesday), Home & Abroad book presentation ceremony. Guest speakers will include Alessio Antoniolli (Director of Gasworks and Triangle Network), Lúcia Marques (curator), Mónica de Miranda and Jorge Rocha (Home & Abroad artistic coordinators), moderated by Paul Goodwin (cross-cultural curator at Tate Britain) and attended by some of the participating artists.
In Lisbon, on 26th February 2011 (Saturday), the launch will include presentations by Paulo Reis (co-director of Carpe Diem – Arte e Pesquisa), Lúcia Marques (curator), Monica Miranda and Jorge Rocha (Home & Abroad artistic coordinators) and in presence of some of the artists and invited participants.
